The challenge
Create an opening for one of our themes during the opening ceremony.
The World Music Competition is an international wind music festival that takes place every four years and brings together thousands of musicians from all over the world. The opening ceremony was held at the Parkstad Limburg Stadium in Kerkrade and was divided into five themed sections corresponding to the continents. Each themed section was opened in grand style. We were asked to open the Africa section in a spectacular way.

The solution
Let's get 12,000 people moving with just 1 performer.
We devised a concept that used contrasts and recognition to make a difference. One of the biggest contrasts we could create was to suddenly leave the field almost completely empty amidst all the entertainment, thereby shifting the focus to a single person. The recognition came from the sudden blackout, after which we created a spine-tingling moment to the sounds of the well-known Lion King intro by simulating a sunrise and a birth. At the centre spot, a figure dressed in white awoke, surrounded by four laser harps reaching high into the sky. This was followed by a dazzling Beambox percussion show, through which we engaged with 12,000 people.
